Review: Bloodlines #6 “Ground Zero”

There's been an alien invasion unlike anything we’ve seen before. A xenomorph-like alien spreads her influence by infecting the minds of humans, and the fate of mankind hangs in the balance. At this stage, there doesn't seem to be a clear solution. The name of the game is survival, putting off the inevitable bleak ending. Combining elements of sci fi, superhero, and zombie genres, this series is a real treat for my fellow comic book geeks. The characters are unique enough to be interesting, yet familiar enough for newcomers to follow without much difficulty.

The artwork in this book is superb. The level of detail on the alien is high. The color palette overall is engaging, vibrant without being neon. Several splash pages would be worthy of hanging on your wall as a poster. But what's most important for any successful comic book is the action. Fear not. The action between each panel is so fluid that it plays like a movie in the theatre of the mind.

Although Bloodlines has only released six issues thus far with a cast of unknowns, it is impossible not to care about these characters. From the handicapped boy with super strength, to the genius geek that can turn invisible, the super charged valley girl, and the half crazed mercenary that reminds them of the tragedy that awaits the,  these are uniquely intriguing characters. I thoroughly enjoyed watching their interactions.

The Verdict: While you can read this single issue and enjoy it because it has a full story arc, I would encourage you to read those that came before it. This series may be the zenith of geekdom, combining the best elements of the genres we love seamlessly. I am new to the series, but you can be sure I will be following it closely from here on out.
